Petty Officer Dexter L. Lace was born September 4, 1980, in the province of Samar, Philippines. He graduated from Mission Bay High School in 1999 and entered the Navy on 21 August 2001. Following completion of basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois he reported to Meridian Mississippi for Ship’s Serviceman SH “A” School.
He reported for duty onboard the USS BELLEAU WOOD (LHA 3) in January 2002 as part of the Amphibious Ready Group with Marine Expeditionary Unit working as a Ship’s Serviceman. Upon decommissioned of USS BELLEAU WOOD (LHA 3) in 2005, he reported onboard USS RENTZ (FFG 46) in June 2005 as an LPO finishing his first sea tour. In July 2006, he reported to NAVCONBRIG Miramar, where he served as a Quarter Supervisor and Barber Instructor. In November 2009, he reported to USS BLUE RIDGE (LCC 19), an FDNF command under COMSEVENTHFLT. He advanced to First Class Petty Officer. In 2011, and was temporarily assigned to USS SHILOH (CG 67) in support of “Operation Tomodachi” after the devastating earthquake and Japan’s Nuclear Reactor mishap. In January 2014 he reported to Afloat Training Group San Diego, as Retail and Services Assessor/Trainer. Petty Officer Lace is currently serving as Afloat Trainer and Assessor, providing guidance and training to ships and sailors within the fleet.
Petty Officer Lace has earned Surface and Aviation Warfare, Master Training Specialist, and Afloat Training Specialist designations.
His decorations include the Navy Achievement Medal (6 awards), Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal and the Presidential Volunteer Service Award and various unit and campaign awards.
Petty Officer Lace is married to his beautiful wife, Kathleen Cabonce. Together they have four beautiful children.
