Executive Officer

Commander Matzat is a native of Madison Wisconsin. He received a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Mechanics - Astronautics, with additional majors in Mathematics and Computer Science in 1993 from University of Wisconsin - Madison and in 2007 earned a Master of Arts Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from Naval War College Newport Rhode Island.

Commander Matzat's operational tours include duty in USS GEORGE PHILIP (FFG-12) as Repair Officer, Damage Control Assistant, and Ordnance Officer; USS KITTY HAWK (CV-63) stationed in Yokosuka Japan as, First Division Officer, Assistant Frist Lieutenant and First Lieutenant; USS SHOUP (DDG-86) as the Pre-commissioning Weapons Officer and Combat Systems Officer; USS PELEIU (LHA-5) as the Damage Control Assistant; Carrier Strike Group NINE as the Assistant to the Chief of Staff for Materiel (N4).

Commander Matzat's shore tours include Director of Training at Fleet Antisubmarine Warfare Training Center and Tactics and Department Head Instructor at Surface Warfare Officers School.
