|LCDR Melvin Knox
Executive Officer (June 2011 - December 2011)
Lieutenant Commander Melvin Knox, originally from Ypsilanti, Michigan, enlisted in the Navy in January 1991. After completing Basic Training, Macinist Mate Nuclear Field “A” School, and Nuclear Power School, LCDR Knox reported aboard the USS KITTY HAWK (CV-63) in San Diego, California. Onboard KITTY HAWK he served from 1992 – 1996 as a Main Propulsion Machinist Mate in Four Main Machinery Room. During this time KITTY HAWK made two deployments to the Arabian Gulf in support of Operation Desert Shield and a deployment in support of COMMANDER SEVENTH FLEET. From 1996 to 1997, LCDR Knox served in Auxiliaries Division onboard USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN-72) in Everett, Washington.
After his selection for commissioning in the Seaman to Admiral (Legacy) program, LCDR Knox attended Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Florida. Upon completion of Surface Warfare Division Officer Course in Newport, Rhode Island, he reported onboard USS SACRAMENTO (AOE-1) as 1st and 2nd Division Officer. He completed a second Division Officer tour aboard USS FORD (FFG-54) as the Training Officer. Upon completing Department Head School in 2006, LCDR Knox reported to San Diego, California as the Operations Department Head onboard USS THACH (FFG-43). He completed his second Department Head tour as the Combat Systems Officer onboard USS MOMSEN (DDG-92) in Everett, Washington.
In June of 2009, LCDR Knox reported to AFLOAT TRAINING GROUP PACNORWEST and is currently the Executive Officer.
Lieutenant Commander Knox is a graduate of the University of Washington and holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Informatics. Personal awards include four Navy Commendation Medals, three Navy Achievement Medals, and one Good Conduct Medal.
