|Captain David Matawitz
Commodore (August 2010 - February 2013)
Captain David Matawitz is a native of Kirtland, Ohio. He was commissioned in 1983 after graduating with distinction from the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Virginia where he received a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Chemistry.
Sea duty assignments include tours as Damage Control Assistant and Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer in USS SIDES (FFG 14), Engineer Officer in USS PAUL F FOSTER (DD 964), Commissioning Engineer USS RAINIER (AOE 7), Executive Officer USS INGRAHAM (FFG 61), Commanding Officer USS FORD (FFG 54) and USS PORT ROYAL (CG 73). Captain Matawitz has completed deployments to the Indian Ocean and several to the Arabian Gulf.
Shore duty assignments include: Action Officer on the N6 Staff at Commander in Chief, U.S. Naval Forces, Europe; Officer Detailer at the Bureau of Naval Personnel; Branch Head for Current Ships and Fleet Modernization on the OPNAV Staff of the Director, Surface Warfare N86; Chief of Staff for Commander Strike Forces Training, Pacific; and Commander Cruiser Class Squadron.
Captain Matawitz is currently serving as Commander Afloat Training Group, Pacific.
Graduated education includes a Master’s degree in Safety Engineering from National University and a second from the Naval War College in National Security Affairs.
His personal awards include Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, and various other personal and unit awards.
