Information Systems Technician First Class Petty Officer (SW/AW) Lashandrea Young hails from Augusta, Ga. After graduating from Warren County High School, she enlisted in the United States Navy in Oct.1997. Upon completion of basic training, she was sent to Naval Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill., for apprenticeship training, followed by her first tour aboard USS Nicholson (DD 982).
During her time aboard USS Nicholson, she completed a Mediterranean deployment. She was assigned to the Operations Division (ODOl), where she struck yeoman and was frocked to third class petty officer.
She transferred to Commander, Training Air Wing One, Meridian, Miss. in 2000. While there, she decided to cross rate to Cryptologic Technician Communications (CTO). During CTO "A" school in Pensacola Fla., she was advanced to second class petty officer. She graduated from CTO "A" school, Jun. 2002 and reported to National Security Agency/ Central Security Service Ft. Meade, Md.
Her next assignment was at Navy Information Operations Command (NIOC) Hawaii, where she held positions as the Communications Watch Officer, Assistant Communications watch Officer, Qualifications Team Manager and Division Administrator. During this tour, the CTO rating merged with the Information Systems Technician (IT) rating. She was selected as NSA/CSS Hawaii Performer of the Year 2007 (Enabler) and NIOC Hawaii Junior Sailor of the Quarter. In Jun., 2008, she was frocked to first class petty officer and transferred to USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75).
While stationed aboard Truman, she completed a fifth and sixth fleet deployment and two Docked Planned Incremental Availability periods. She held positions as Automatic Data Processing Repair Leading Petty Officer (LPO), Assistant LPO, Command Assistant Section Leader and Command Assistant Mentor Coordinator. She was also a member of the Command Training Team, Damage Control Training Team, First Class Petty Officer Association Secretary, and Sexual Assault Prevention and Readiness representative. She qualified Surface Warfare Specialist, Aviation Warfare Specialist and Combat Systems Officer of the Watch.
Petty Officer Young is currently assigned to Afloat Training Group Middle Pacific where she serves as Communications Team Lead, Command Training Officer, and First Class Petty Officer Association Treasurer. She has also qualified as an Afloat Training Specialist.
Petty Officer Young's personal awards include the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal (2), Navy Achievement Medal (3), Good Conduct Medal (4), and various service and campaign awards.
