Command Master Chief (May 2013 - December 2013)

Master Chief Jason Dunn, a native of Columbus, Ohio, graduated from Sylvania Southview High School in 1991 and entered the Navy under the delayed entry program. He attended basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois in 1991. Upon graduating from basic training, he attended Fire Controlman “A” School in Great Lakes, Illinois and selected orders to become a Tomahawk Technician. He subsequently completed Tomahawk “C” School in San Diego, California, attaining the rank of Third Class Petty Officer.

His initial sea tour was in USS FIFE (DD 991), stationed in Yokosuka, Japan, where he served as a Tomahawk Technician and Work Center Supervisor, promoting to Second Class Petty Officer and earning his Enlisted Surface Warfare Qualification. His next assignment was in USS JOHN S. MCCAIN (DDG 56), where he was promoted to the rank of First Class Petty Officer, and acted as Divisional Leading Chief Petty Officer, in the absence of a Chief. He also attained his Combat Systems Officer of the Watch and Tomahawk Engagement Control Officer letters. Master Chief Dunn was then assigned to COMSEVENTHFLEET onboard the USS BLUE RIDGE (LCC 19), fulfilling duties as the Fleet Level Tomahawk Strike Coordinator (TSC) for the Seventh Fleet AOR, where he was promoted to Chief Petty Officer.

After three successful tours at sea, he then transferred to Cruise Missile Support Activity (CMSA) in Camp Smith, Hawaii, fulfilling the role of Mission Distribution Supervisor for the PACIFIC AOR and was charged with upkeep and supervision of the Personnel Reliability Program (PRP).

He then returned to sea as Cruise Missile Leading Chief Petty Officer, serving four years onboard USS RUSSELL (DDG 59), in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. During his tour, he also served as Weapons Department Leading Chief Petty Officer, was advanced to Senior Chief Petty Officer, and attained his Tactical Action Officer (TAO), Anti-Air Warfare Coordinator (AAWC) and Surface Warfare Coordination (SUWC) Letters. He then reported to his current assignment at Afloat Training Group Middle Pacific as Combat Systems Departmental Leading Chief Petty Officer and underway Strike Warfare and Ballistic Missile Defense Assessor, qualifying as an Afloat Training Specialist, and promoting to Master Chief Petty Officer. He now serves as the Command Master Chief.

Master Chief Dunn is was selected for and is an Honor graduate of the U.S. Air Force Senior Non-Commissioned Officer Academy, Class 2011-A, Flight 02. He earned an Associate’s degree from Wayland Baptist University and is in the final year of his pursuit of a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems Management. His personal awards include: Defense Meritorious Service Medal; Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3 awards); Joint Service Achievement Medal; Navy Achievement Medal (8 awards) and various unit and campaign awards.
