|Captain Brian J. Finman, USN
Officer-in-Charge of SMWDC Amphibious Warfare Division
A native of Appleton, Wisconsin, Captain Finman graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1992 with a degree in Systems Engineering and a commission in the Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer.
His ship tours include Combat Information Center Officer in USS RENTZ (FFG-46), Main Machinery Room Two Officer in USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN-71), First Lieutenant in USS GUNSTON HALL (LSD-44), Reactor Training Assistant in USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN-73), Executive Officer in USS CARTER HALL (LSD-50), Commanding Officer of USS RUSHMORE (LSD-47) from Oct 2010 to December 2012, and a 6-month interim assignment as Chief Staff Officer for Amphibious Squadron THREE aboard USS PELELIU (LHA-5) . He has deployed to the Western Pacific, South America, Africa, Mediterranean Sea, Arabian Gulf, and Indian Ocean.
Captain Finman has completed a variety of staff tours, including instructor duty at NROTC Unit Hampton Roads, Surface Nuclear Assignments detailer at the Navy Personnel Command, Expeditionary Warfare Branch Head at NATO's Maritime Component Command in Naples, Italy, and Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations and Plans at Expeditionary Strike Group SEVEN in Okinawa, Japan. CAPT Finman presently serves as Officer-in-Charge of Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center Detachment (SMWDC) Amphibious Warfare Division at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek Fort Story in Norfolk, Virginia.
He holds has a Masters of Engineering Management from Old Dominion University and a Masters in National Security Studies from the Naval War College.
