CAPT Andrew D. Amidon
Commanding Officer

A native of Havelock, North Carolina, Captain Amidon graduated from North Carolina State University in 1992 and received his commission from the Naval Reserve Officers’ Training Corps program.

CAPT Amidon’s most recent assignment was as the Service Joint Training Division Accreditation and Certification Branch Chief, Joint Staff J7, from April 2013 to April 2016. He was responsible for ensuring Service and U.S. Special Operations Command joint training programs and supporting sites provide a realistic and relevant joint training environment to forces preparing to meet combatant commander mission requirements.

CAPT Amidon’s sea duty assignments include: Ordnance Officer, Gunnery Officer, Main Propulsion Division Officer, and Main Propulsion Assistant in USS Leyte Gulf (CG 55); Operations Officer in USS McInerney (FFG 8); Executive Officer in USS Avenger (MCM 1); Navigator and Dry-docking Planned Maintenance Availability Coordinator in USS Nassau (LHA 4); Executive Officer in USS Boone (FFG 8); and Executive Officer in Assault Craft Unit ONE (ACU 1).

CAPT Amidon took command of Assault Craft Unit ONE in May 2010, where he was responsible for over 300 Sailors and 25 displacement landing craft, including a forward deployed detachment in Sasebo, Japan. His command successfully completed 28 landing craft utility deployments in support of pacific fleet amphibious ready group and partnership station operations, and also provided trained and ready boat crews and staff for the execution of three major maritime prepositioning force exercises.

Ashore, CAPT Amidon served at Afloat Training Group Mayport, FL as a Training Liaison Officer and the Surface Warfare Department Head; and at the Surface Warfare Officers School Command in Newport, RI as a Department Head Course Maritime Warfighting Instructor and the Expeditionary and Mine Warfare Cell Leader.

CAPT Amidon earned a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies degree in 2013 from the Naval War College in Newport, RI and a Master of Military Arts and Sciences degree in 2005 from the Air Command and Staff College in Montgomery, AL.

Personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy Commendation Medal (five awards), and various campaign, Service and unit level awards.
