Originally from Deerfield, Illinois, Commander Grunwell graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1996 with a degree in Pre-Medicine/English. She also holds a Master of Science Degree in Operations Management from the University of Arkansas and a Master of Arts Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College.
Commander Grunwell has served at sea as Electrical Officer in USS CARTER HALL (LSD 50), Fire Control Officer in USS NORMANDY (CG 60), and Weapons Officer and Combat Systems Officer in USS HOPPER (DDG 70).
Commander Grunwell has served ashore as Surface Junior Officer Detailer (PERS-412) at Navy Personnel Command in Millington, TN; as an N8 Action Officer at COMPACFLT in Pearl Harbor, HI; as an Executive Assistant to the Director of the Division of Professional Development at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD; and as N73 Executive Officer/Lead Instructor at the Surface Warfare Officers School Command in Newport, RI.
Commander Grunwell has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, six Navy Commendation Medals, three Navy Achievement Medals, and various unit and service awards.
