CDR Lake is a native of Jackson, MS. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy and received his commission in 1994.
After completing Surface Warfare Officer School, his first assignment was on USS FLATLEY (FFG 21) as the First Lieutenant and Communications Officer from April 1995 to May 1996. Following his tour on FLATLEY, he served as the Navigator and Combat Information Center Officer on USS JOHN L HALL (FFG 32) from June 1996 to June 1998.
CDR Lake’s Department Head tours were as Operations Officer on USS FIFE (DD 991) and as the Operations and Plans Officer (N3/5) for Destroyer Squadron Fifty (CDS 50) in Manama, Bahrain.
Post Department Head, he served as the Current Operations/Strike Officer for Expeditionary Strike Group Five/Three (ESG 5/3) from October 2004 to March 2007.
He completed his Executive Officer tour on USS VANDEGRIFT (FFG 48) from September 2007 to September 2009.
CDR Lake’s shore tour included Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff – C5I for Commander, Naval Surface Forces Pacific. Additionally, he completed a one year IA assignment as Executive Officer of a joint, coalition Iraqi Training and Advisory – Navy (Umm Qasr) command in support of USF-I Operations IRAQ FREEDOM and NEW DAWN.
CDR Lake has a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the United States Naval Academy and a Masters of Science in Physics from the Naval Post Graduate School.
CDR Lake is married to Kelly Boardway, LCDR, MSC, USN who currently serves as Director for Administration on the staff of Commander, Navy Medicine West.
Personal awards and decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (five awards) and various unit and service awards.
