San Diego Community Delivers Hundreds of Christmas Trees to Navy Families
SAN DIEGO - Lincoln Military Housing staff members gave away 280 Christmas trees to 280 San Diego-area Sailors and their families, Dec. 6.
The annual giveaway is hosted by Trees for Troops, a program of the Christmas Spirit Foundation, and FedEx. Together with Lincoln Military Housing in San Diego, Trees for Troops gave away hundreds of Christmas trees to show their appreciation and support for military families during the holiday season.
"This is by far one of my favorite events to participate in during the holidays," said Cindy Farless, the Community Services Director of Lincoln Military Housing. "It gives all the employees of Lincoln Military Housing a nice chance to help out our military community."
Family members gathered at the Lincoln Family Housing Community Services Office and waited in line to receive their Christmas tree. Lincoln Family Housing provided entertainment, snacks, and refreshments to all the families waiting in line.
"It's awesome," said Melissa Brontz, a participant in the tree giveaway. "It goes to show that there are lots of people out there that truly care about what all our military service members do for our country."
The families were allowed to pick out their own tree from a wide variety of different sizes and species. Once a tree selection was made, the Lincoln Military Housing employees loaded them up or tied them down on the family member's vehicle.
"It's an honor to serve the families of husbands and wives who are deployed," said Tabitha Alcaraz, a customer service employee at Lincoln Military Housing. "And besides, who doesn't love a Christmas tree?"
This is the eighth year Trees for Troops has hosted the Christmas tree giveaway. Events are being hosted nationwide with more than 18,000 farm-grown Christmas trees being delivered to all branches of the military across the country.
