Naval Surface Forces Announces 2011 Battle “E” Awardees

SAN DIEGO – Naval Surface Forces (SURFOR) announced the 2011 Battle Effectiveness (Battle “E”) winners, Feb. 24.
The Battle “E” is awarded annually to ships and crews that exhibit the maximum condition of departmental readiness in their group, and their capability to perform their wartime tasks. For the competitive year 2011, 34 of 168 ships across the fleet were awarded the Battle “E.”
“The Battle ‘E’ demonstrates exceptional performance and each surface ship award winner has shown success in meeting mission area standards,” said Vice Adm. Richard Hunt, Commander, Naval Surface Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet. “Our primary mission is war fighting and they have set the standard of readiness fleet wide.”
Winners for Naval Forces Japan are USS Cowpens (CG 63), USS Fitzgerald (DDG 62) and USS McCampbell (DDG 85).
Winners in Hawaii are USS Hopper (DDG 70), USS Port Royal (CG 73) and USS Reuben James (FFG 57).
San Diego winners are USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6), USS Boxer (LHD 4), USS Gary (FFG 51), USS Halsey (DDG 97), USS Harpers Ferry (LSD 49), USS Kidd (DDG 100), USS McClusky (FFG 41), USS New Orleans (LPD 18), USS Pinckney (DDG 91), USS Sampson (DDG 102), and USS Sterett (DDG 104).
Mayport, Fla. winners are USS Boone (FFG 28), USS Gettysburg (CG 64), USS Hue City (CG 66), USS Klakring (FFG 42) and USS Roosevelt (DDG 80).
Norfolk, Va. winners include USS Bainbridge (DDG 96), USS Barry (DDG 52), USS Bataan (LHD 5), USS Bulkeley (DDG 84), USS Donald Cook (DDG 75), USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7), USS James E. Williams (DDG 95), USS Leyte Gulf (CG 55), USS McFaul (DDG 74), USS San Antonio (LPD 17), USS San Jacinto (CG 56) and USS Winston S. Churchill (DDG 81).
The mine countermeasure ship winner is USS Patriot (MCM 7) and the winning mine countermeasure crews are Crew Conflict and Crew Swerve.
The patrol coastal crews include Crew Delta, Crew Juliet, and Crew Lima.
Battle “E” awardees demonstrated sustained superior performance in the following six excellence categories: Maritime Warfare; Engineering and Survivability; Command, Control, Communications, and Information Warfare; Logistics Management; Commander Naval Surface Force Safety Award and the Efficiency Excellence Award.
Crews awarded the Battle “E” may wear the ribbon immediately.
