SAN DIEGO – The Surface Officers Spouses (SOS) group delivered meals to military families at Naval Medical Center San Diego’s Fisher House, Feb. 19.
Twenty one SOS members gathered at a local establishment where patrons can assemble family size meals. The group prepared and delivered 36 meals for injured service members and their families who reside at Fisher House at Naval Medical Center San Diego.
According to Mrs. Towanda Curtis, wife of Commander, Naval Surface Forces/Commander, Naval Surface Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet, Vice Adm. D. C. Curtis, the opportunity to reach out to the military families at Fisher House was very gratifying and rewarding for the SOS members.
“This was one of the most rewarding things we’ve been able to do all year,” Mrs. Curtis said. “To be able to give back in a way that helps our families by taking some of the strain off of them meant a lot to us,” she added.
“Our [SOS] mission is to support Navy spouses across the waterfront through education, social gatherings and community projects such as the delivery of meals to Fisher House residents,” said Curtis.
In addition, SOS supports various scholarships, such as the Anchor Scholarship, which provides financial assistance to academically qualified dependents of current and former members of the Naval Surface Forces. SOS is open to all spouses of Surface Warfare Officers and is always accepting new members.
