SAN DIEGO – Rear Adm. Kendall Card, commander, Expeditionary Strike Group 3, visited USS Rushmore on Feb. 10, during the ship’s Continuous Maintenance Availability (CMAV).

Accompanied by Rushmore’s Commanding Officer Cmdr. William Grotewold, Card took a tour of the dock landing ship’s spaces which included the boat deck, turntable, well deck and main spaces to assess the ship’s repair progress during the CMAV.

“It was great to see the admiral come on board to visit the ship and recognize the crew for the work they’ve done,” said Gunner’s Mate 2nd Class Colin Bathgate, one of more than 25 outstanding sailors who received ESG-3 coins from Card.

USS Rushmore will be in its Continuous Maintenance Availability until spring of 2010.
