LCS 2 Receives Crew Certifications
By Lt. j.g. Robin Roberts, LCS 2 (Blue) Public Affairs
SAN DIEGO – Precommissioning unit (PCU) Independence’s (LCS 2) blue crew received their first two certifications May 28, achieving a perfect score.

Afloat Training Group Pacific and LCS Classron conducted the certification drills, assessing the crew in their medical and anti-terrorism/force protection readiness. The blue crew was the first LCS 2 crew to earn these qualifications.

“The total team effort between the LCS Classron, ATG, the Mine Warfare Mission Package Detachment and core crew was impressive,” said Cmdr. Curt Renshaw, LCS 2 (blue) commanding officer. “That team relationship is critical to our future success and this training was a key element in building the trust and confidence necessary to produce a mission ready crew.”

The training and certifications that the crew completed will allow for blue crew Sailors to begin transitioning in July to the shipyard in Mobile, Ala., where they will begin their final training to prepare for the ship’s delivery to the Navy in December 2008.
