Command of Antietam Scheduled to Change Hands

SAN DIEGO – Capt. John B. Uhl will relieve Capt. John S. Mitchell III, as commanding officer of the guided-missile cruiser USS Antietam (CG 54) in a change-of-command ceremony at Naval Base San Diego Oct. 1.
Capt. Peter A. Gumataotao, Chief of Staff, Naval Surface Forces, will be the guest speaker for the ceremony. Gumataotao previously commanded Destroyer Squadron 31, and the guided-missile destroyer USS Decatur (DDG 73).
Uhl assumes command after serving as a Requirements Analyst on the staff of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from Aug. 2006 to June 2008. He previously commanded the guided missile frigate USS Simpson (FFG 56) from Jan. 2005 to July 2006.
Mitchell has served as Antietam’s commanding officer since Oct. 19, 2006. He previously commanded the guided missile destroyer USS Milius (DDG 69).
