LCDR Scott A. Jones
Commanding Officer

LCDR Jones, a native of Grand Rapids, Michigan. He attended the University of South Carolina earning a bachelor’s degree and was commissioned through the NROTC program in 2004. His first assignment was to USS O’KANE (DDG 77) where he served as Gunnery Officer, Auxiliaries Officer, and Fire Control Officer. While on USS O’KANE, he completed two deployments to FIFTH Fleet in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM and counter piracy operations, RIMPAC 2004 and 2008, and completed a Surge Deployment to SEVENTH Fleet.

On shore duty, LCDR Jones was an instructor for Marquette University’s NROTC program from July 2008 through April 2011 where he earned his Master’s Degree in Business Administration specializing in Finance.

In March 2012, LCDR Jones reported to USS GETTYSBURG (CG 64) as the Weapons Officer and fleeted up to Combat Systems Officer in July 2013. While serving on GETTYSBURG, he completed a nine-month FIFTH FLEET deployment in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM and several multinational exercises.

In May 2014 LCDR Jones attended the Surface Commander’s course and reported to USS PIONEER (MCM 9) in October 2014 where he served as the Executive Officer through December 2015. Jones assumed command of PIONEER 19 February, 2016.

His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (5) and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2) in addition to several unit awards.
