LCDR Wells, originally from Lorain, Ohio, enlisted in 1987 via the Delayed Entry Program as a Machinist’s Mate. Completing recruit training and A school in Orlando, FL, he was assigned to San Diego, CA where he served in USS ACADIA (AD 42), USS HALSEY (CG 23), and USS JUNEAU (LPD 10), where he earned his Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist designation.
He left active duty to pursue his education, earning his AA from Southwestern College and his BA in History from San Diego State University.
After completing Officer Candidate School in August, 2001, he returned to San Diego, CA where he served as Auxiliaries Officer and Assistant Operations Officer in USS JARRETT (FFG 33). Subsequently, he was assigned as Propulsion Branch Officer at South West Regional Maintenance Center and Assist Policy and Plans for Training on the staff of Commander, Third Fleet. His last assignment was as Engineer Officer in USS PATRIOT (MCM 7), home ported in Sasebo, Japan.
LCDR Wells personal awards include Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), Navy Good Conduct Medal, Military Volunteer Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (six awards), and Overseas Service Ribbon. Unit awards include Meritorious Unit Commendation (four awards), Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendation with operational “O”, Navy E (six awards), National Defense Medal (two awards), Southwest Asia Service Medal (three awards), Global War On Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War On Terrorism Service Medal, and Coast Guard Special Operations Ribbon.
