|LCDR Todd Penrod
LCDR Todd Penrod is a native of St. Petersburg, Florida. Following Basic Training in Great Lakes, Illinois, he attended Basic Electricity and Electronics and Torpedoman's Mate "A" and "C" schools in Orlando, Florida. His first assignment was at Naval Air Station, Jacksonville, Florida. Additional enlisted tours include: USS AUBREY FITCH (FFG 34) in Mayport, Florida, USS ORION (AS 18) Forward deployed in La Maddelena, Italy, Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka, Japan, Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois and USS JOHN F KENNEDY (CV 67) where he received his commission via the CWO/LDO program in 2001 as a CWO2.
Following commissioning, he reported to USS PREBLE (DDG 88) as Systems Test Officer. Taking the ship through all phases of new construction, his tour culminated in PREBLE's first deployment to the Arabian Gulf in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. During this tour he was selected for LDO as a LT(JG) from CWO2.
After a brief shore tour at Afloat Training Group, Pacific and upon completion of his undergraduate degree in Education from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, he reported to USS BUNKER HILL (CG 52) as the Electronics Material Officer. During this tour he deployed with the BOXER ESG as the SCC and additionally operated with the IKECSG supporting as SCC and ADC for contingency operations off Somalia's Coast. He was selected for lateral transfer to the Surface Warfare Unrestricted Line officer community in 2007 and subsequently served as the Weapons Officer in BUNKER HILL for 14 months where he qualified Engineering Officer of the Watch and earned two Battle Efficiency Awards and the Spokane Trophy for Combat Excellence.
Upon completion of department head training in Newport, RI, he reported to USS GRIDLEY (DDG 101) as the Operations Officer. GRIDLEY deployed with the Carl Vinson Strike Group in 2010 and operated in the 7th Fleet AOR conducting independent operations including multi-national exercises with JMSDF, ROK and RSN navies.
Lieutenant Commander Penrod reported aboard USS AVENGER (MCM 1) in November 2011 as the Executive Officer and again on April 2013.
