HONG KONG - USS Avenger (MCM 1) and USS Guardian (MCM 5) moored in Victoria Harbor July 3, for a port visit to engage with locals and experience the unique culture of Hong Kong.
During the visit, the American Club Hong Kong will host members of the crew for dinner, Sailors will celebrate the 4th of July with a picnic at nearby Splinter Beach, members of each crew will play softball with a local youth group, and deliver donated goods to and clean up a park near Crossroads Village.
“It’s a really great feeling when we interact with local kids,” said Mineman 1st Class Jeremy A. Frick, “whether it’s playing games or handing out toys- I just love giving back to communities like this.”
The Sailors of Avenger and Guardian have displayed high levels of participation in community service projects throughout their Western Pacific deployment and will continue this trend when the crews spend time with a local youth group and clean up a nearby park on the 5-6 July.
Avenger and Guardian have been deployed throughout the Asia-Pacific region since they got underway on February 28, to participate in Foal Eagle 11, and will continue on their MCM Western Pacific deployment after departing Hong Kong.
