LCDR Sullivan is a native of New York, NY and raised in Greenwich, Connecticut. He attended the University of New Hampshire and was awarded a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science graduating in 1998. After working in the public sector for a law firm he was accepted into Officer Candidate School and received his commission in 2000.
His first tour of duty was aboard USS O’KANE (DDG-77), where he served as Gunnery Officer, and Auxiliaries Officer. LCDR Sullivan completed his second division officer tour in O’KANE serving as Fire Control Officer. During these tours LCDR Sullivan completed two deployments in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
In March 2004, LCDR Sullivan reported to the Naval Postgraduate School completing a Masters Degree in Modeling, Virtual Environments, and Simulation (MOVES) and his Joint Professional Military Education (JPME I). He was awarded the Surface Navy Association Award for outstanding research in Surface Warfare.
In July 2007, LCDR Sullivan reported to Pre-Commissioning Unit TRUXTUN (DDG-103) as the Operations Officer.
LCDR Sullivan was selected for Early Command in 2009 and reported aboard Forward Deployed USS AVENGER (MCM 1) in Sasebo, Japan as Executive Officer September 2010. He will relieve LCDR Patrick German as Commanding Officer of USS AVENGER (MCM 1) in 2012.
LCDR Sullivan’s awards include the Navy Commendation Medal (two awards), the Navy Achievement Medal (two awards), and various unit and service awards.
