CDR Daniel W. Valascho is native of Detroit, Michigan. He accepted a four year scholarship to attend the United States Naval Academy where he graduated and received his commission in 1995.
His first tour of duty was aboard USS ARLEIGH BURKE (DDG 51), where he served as First Lieutenant. In April 1998, CDR Valascho reported to the USS ARTHUR W. RADFORD (DD 968) where he served as Main Propulsion Assistant.
In June 2000, CDR Valascho reported to the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) and later graduated with a Master’s degree in Operations Research. He completed his Joint Professional Military Education Phase I (JPME I) using the Naval War College non-resident course while attending NPS. In August 2003, CDR Valascho reported to USS O’KANE (DDG 77) and served a twenty-one month tour as Chief Engineer. In May 2005, CDR Valascho reported to USS LAKE ERIE (CG 70) and served a nineteen month tour as Chief Engineer.
CDR Valascho’s tour ashore was at the Joint IED Defeat Organization (JIEDDO), Operations Research Systems Analysis (ORSA) Division as Operational Assessments Branch Chief from March 2007 through February 2009. Following that tour, he reported as Executive Officer in USS REUBEN JAMES (FFG 57).
CDR Valascho awards include the Joint Service Commendation Medal; Navy Commendation Medal; Navy Achievement Medal and various unit and service awards.
