Fourteen REUBEN JAMES’ sailors and family members as well as several others volunteered at River of Life Mission on November 1st in order to provide meals those in need.
NCCS(SW) Johannes Gonzales, REUBEN JAMES’ command senior chief, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to help out. “Another great opportunity for our Sailors to share that Ohana spirit that makes being stationed in Hawaii so special. Assisting and helping others is part of our mission and to be able to do this locally is truly a tremendous opportunity”
The River of Life Mission regularly serves several hundred people from all walks of life breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
“I was really impressed that the Chapel has been able to provide over 200 of Hawaii’s less fortunate citizens with three meals a day, purely from donations and volunteers.” Said ENS Jennifer George.
“It was great to see so many of the REUBEN JAMES crew, sailors from other commands, and civilian volunteers dedicating their time to make this small gesture a successful one.” Said CDR Luis Alva, REUBEN JAMES’ Executive Officer.
The River of Life Mission welcomes all volunteers. For more information, visit www.riveroflifemission.org or call (808) 524-7656 and ask for Tracy.
