Commanding Officer

Commander Bradford is a native of Bryan, Texas and was commissioned through the Naval ROTC Program at Cornell University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government and Asian Studies in 1997. He earned a Masters of Science in Strategic Studies from the Institute of Defense and Strategic Studies at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore in 2004.

Commander Bradford’s sea service includes assignments as First Lieutenant in USS JOHN S. MCCAIN (DDG 56), Navigator in USS FORT MCHENRY (LSD 43), and Engineer Officer and Combat Systems Officer in USS STETHEM (DDG 63).

Commander Bradford’s service ashore includes assignments to U.S. Naval Forces Japan as Assistant Plans Officer; as an Olmsted Scholar studying at the Defense Language Institute and several Southeast Asian universities; in OPNAV’s Operations, Plans, and Strategy Directorate (N3/N5) as Asia-Pacific International Engagement Officer; and in the Office of the Secretary of Defense as Country Director for Japan.
