OSC(SW/AW/IW) Lateef A. DaySenior Enlisted Leader
Chief Lateef A. Day hails from El Paso, Texas where he graduated from Parkland High School.
In January 1997, he enlisted in the United States Navy attending Basic Training at RTC Great Lakes, IL. After completing basic training, he attended Operation Specialist “A” school in Dam Neck, Virginia.
Chief Day reported to his first tour of duty in June 1997 aboard USS Moosebrugger (DD-980) homeported in Mayport, FL. While serving on the Moosebrugger, he completed UNITAS and SNFL deployments, advanced to Petty Officer Second Class and in January 2000 attended and completed OS “C” Air Intercept Controller School in Dam Neck, Virginia.
After decommissioning USS Moosebrugger in December 2000, Chief Day received follow-on orders to the USS Philippine Sea (CG-58). While aboard the Philippine Sea, he deployed to the Mediterranean Sea as part of the Enterprise Carrier Strike Group and completed his qualifications as a Combat Information Center Watch Officer.
Chief Day reported to USSTRATCOM Cruise Missile Support Activity at Camp Smith, HI in August 2002, where he qualified as a Mission Distribution System Operator and was advanced to Petty Officer First class in 2005.
In September 2005, Chief Day received orders aboard Pre-Commissioning Unit USS Gridley (DDG 101) homeported in San Diego, California, where he served as OI division LPO, attended various schools earning his AICS qualification and deployed with USS Ronald Regan Carrier Strike Group.
Chief Day reported to his next assignment USS Lake Erie in Pearl Harbor, HI in October 2008. In September 2010 he was advanced to Chief Petty Officer and served as LCPO of OI division.
Chief Day received orders to Chief of Naval Personnel in Washington D.C. in November 2011. There he worked as a Manpower Analyst for four combatant commands and was directly responsible for over 2,000 Navy Manpower assets.
Chief Day’s personal awards include the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards), and numerous unit and campaign awards. He is qualified to wear the Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist, Enlisted Aviation Warfare specialist and Information Warfare Specialist.
