Commander Gregory D. Blyden
Commanding Officer

Commander Gregory D. Blyden is a native of the United States Virgin Islands and a 1995 graduate of the University of Houston, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. He also holds a Masters degree in Financial Management from the Naval Postgraduate School.

CDR Blyden’s initial division officer sea tour was in USS ESTOCIN (FFG 15) as First Lieutenant. Following completion of the nuclear training pipeline, he served in USS HARRY S. TRUMAN (CVN-75) as Reactor Electrical division officer during her maiden deployment. He later completed department head tours as Operations Officer in USS FORD (FFG 54) and Main Propulsion Assistant in USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71).  He reported to USS CARTER HALL as Executive Officer in June 2011 and assumed command of the USS CARTER HALL in November, 2012.

CDR Blyden’s shore tours include Surface Nuclear Mobile Training Team Atlantic and the Navy Office of Legislative Affairs. He also completed a one-year operational tour as a Brigade Electronics Warfare Officer in Iraq, supporting Marine Expeditionary Forces in counter-IED operations.

In addition to various service medals and unit citations, CDR Blyden has been awarded the Bronze Star Medal, four Navy Commendation Medals, and three Navy Achievement Medals. Additionally, he was selected as the 2006 Naval Air Forces Atlantic Junior Shiphandler of the Year.
