Command Master Chief Salas, a native of San Antonio, Texas and enlisted in the United States Navy in June 1990. Following completion of basic training at Recruit Training Command, San Diego, California he reported to Machinery Repairman “A” School at Naval Training Center, San Diego, California.

Upon graduation, he reported for duty aboard USS ORION (AS 18) in La Maddalena, Italy. His fleet assignments include USS YOSEMITE (AD 19), RESOLUTE (AFDM 10), USS KAUFFMAN (FFG 59), USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN 72), USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER (CVN 69). In addition, Master Chief Salas completed shore assignments at SIMA, Norfolk, and Naval Recruiting District, Dallas, Texas.

Master Chief Salas is currently serving with the “Home of the Brave” as Command Master Chief USS FORT MCHENRY (LSD 43) at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek, Virginia. Master Chief Salas is a graduate of the U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy Class 165, CMC/COB Course Class and has earned his Enlisted Surface and Aviation Warfare designations. Master Chief Salas has completed 7 major deployments to the Western Pacific, Mediterranean, and Middle East in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.

His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (6 awards), the Navy Good Conduct Medal (5 awards) and various other unit and campaign awards.
