LCDR Charles G. Birchfield
Lieutenant Commander Birchfield enlisted in the Navy in August 1990. He completed a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Columbia College of Missouri in 1998. After spending 11 years as enlisted and attaining the Rate of Gas Turbine Systems Technician (Mechanical) Chief Petty Officer, he was commissioned in January 2002 through Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Florida.
Lieutenant Commander Birchfield has served in a variety of tours afloat and ashore. His sea tours include Damage Control Assistant and Main Propulsion Assistant on USS ELROD (FFG 55), Training Officer and Assistant Chief Engineer on USS HAWES (FFG 53), and Chief Engineer on USS CARR (FFG 52). His shore tours include assignment as Training Liaison Officer at Afloat Training Group Norfolk, Assessor/Project Officer at Engineering Assessments Atlantic and Strategy/Joint Planning Instructor at Army Command and General Staff College.
Lieutenant Commander Birchfield holds a Master's degree in Government-Law and Public Policy from Regent University and is a 2014 graduate of Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth. He has been awarded the Navy Commendation Medal (5), Army Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal (5), as well as various unit and campaign awards.
