Command Master Chief

A native of Florida, Master Chief Luby enlisted in the United States Navy in March of 1993.  Upon completion of Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, IL he attended Basic Enlisted Submarine School in Groton, CT.  After graduation, he reported to USS KENTUCKY (SSBN 737) (Gold) home ported in Kings Bay, GA where he participated in several operational deployments.  After successfully completing his first tour of duty, in 1995 he transferred to Hospital Corps “A” School in Great Lakes, IL.

His sea assignments include USS KENTUCKY (SSBN 737) (Gold) , 2nd Force Service Support Group, Camp Lejeune, NC; 2d Marine Division, 2d Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment; Headquarters, 10th Regiment; and Headquarters, 6th Marine Regiment, Camp Lejeune, NC.
His deployments include three strategic deterrent patrols onboard USS KENTUCKY (SSBN 737) (Gold); Landing Force Support Party, Kuwait Naval Base, Kuwait; Marine Logistics Command, Camp Fox, Kuwait; 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit embarked onboard USS IWO JIMA (LHD 7), USS SAN ANTONIO (LPD 17), and USS CARTER HALL (LSD 50) in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM; Regimental Combat Team Six in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM, Helmand Province, Afghanistan December 2011 to November 2012.
His shore assignments include Naval Hospital Pensacola, FL; U.S. Navy Hospital Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico; Instructor Staff, Naval Hospital Corps School, Great Lakes, IL, Naval Hospital, Beaufort, SC, and Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune NC.
His Command Master Chief tours include Naval Hospital Beaufort, Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune and is currently the Command Master Chief of USS MESA VERDE (LPD 19).
Master Chief Luby holds an Associate of Arts degree from Central Texas College, is a graduate of the Navy Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 175); Navy Leadership and Ethics Center, Command Master Chief Course (Class 145); Joint Medical Executive Skills Institute, Capstone Course for Military Health System Leaders (Class 55); and U.S. Fleet Forces Command, Command Senior Enlisted Leader Executive Leadership Symposium.  He is designated a warfare specialist in Submarine, Fleet Marine Force, Surface and Air warfare.
Master Chief Luby’s personal awards include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (6th award), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2nd award), and various other unit and campaign awards.
