Captain Christopher H. Herr
Captain Christopher H. Herr hails from Martha’s Vineyard, MA. He attended Boston College, graduating in 1995 with a B.A. in History. He completed flight training, and was designated a Naval Aviator in December 1997. He is a graduate of the Naval War College with a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies.
CAPT Herr’s operational assignments include Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Light (HSL) 51, Detachment 11 Operations Officer and Squadron UH-3H NATOPS Officer, USS BLUE RIDGE. He transitioned to the SH-60B Seahawk and Helicopter Anti-m Submarine Squadron Light (HSL) HSL-43, USS THACH (FFG-43) as Detachment TWO Operations Officer, squadron’s Assistant Operations Officer, Detachment TWO Officer in Charge, USS CHUNG-HOON (DDG-93) and Squadron Maintenance Officer. He again transitioned to the MH-60R Seahawk and commanded the SPARTANS of Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 70, USS GEORGE H.W. BUSH (CVN-77).
CAPT Herr’s shore assignments include Flag Aide to the President, Naval War College, Joint Staff/J-3 Deputy Directorate for Antiterrorism and Homeland Defense, Naval Personnel Command (PERS-43) as Deputy Director, Head Aviation Combat Placement and Helicopter commander detailer and most recently command of the SEAHAWKS of HSM-41, the MH-60R Fleet Replacement Squadron in Coronado, CA.
CAPT Herr has accumulated over 2800 flight hours in Naval Aircraft. His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (3), Air Medal (Strike/Flight with bronze numeral one), and various individual, unit and campaign awards.
