Commander Michael E. Concannon
CDR Michael Concannon, a native of Keokuk, IA, enlisted in the Navy as a Machinist Mate in 1988, received his commission from The Citadel in 1996 and received his Master’s Degree in Military Studies from the United States Marine Corps Command and General Staff College in 2009.
Ashore, CDR Concannon has completed the Naval Nuclear Power training pipeline twice; once as a junior Sailor in 1989 and again as an officer in 1998. He served twice as a staff instructor at Naval Nuclear Power Training Unit, Charleston, SC; once as an enlisted instructor on Moored Training Ship 635 and again as a Shift Engineer and then the Maintenance and Material Officer on Moored Training Ship 626. He completed a Global War on Terrorism Support Assignment (GSA) In Iraq as the Executive Officer of a Logistics Military Advisory Team at the Besmaya National Training Center and as a Senior Training Advisor for the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Ministry of Peshmerga in Irbil, Iraq. His latest shore assignment was as a Battle Watch Captain in the USFF Maritime Operations Center at Fleet Forces Command.
At sea, CDR Concannon served as a nuclear-qualified Machinist Mate in USS DANIEL BOONE (SSBN 629). He served in USS VICKSBURG (CG 69) as the Operations Intelligence Division Officer and Navigator and in USS HARRY S TRUMAN (CVN 75) as the Reactor Mechanical Division Officer. As a Department Head, he served in USS REUBEN JAMES (FFG 57) as the Operations Officer and in USS HARRY S TRUMAN (CVN 75) as the Reactor Electrical Assistant. His is currently assigned in USS KAUFFMAN (FFG 59) as the Executive Officer.
His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (5), Navy Achievement Medal (2), and various other campaign and service awards.
