Commander John R. Bartak
CDR Bartak was born and raised in the Cleveland, Ohio area and began service in 1993. He served in USS DETROIT (AOE 4) from 1994-1998 as a Deck Seaman and Operations Specialist supporting Adriatic Operations SHARP GUARD and PROVIDE PROMISE.
Upon selecting for the Seaman-to-Admiral Program and commissioning from Officer Candidate School in 1998, CDR Bartak served in USS CROMMELIN (FFG 37) as Combat Information Center Officer and Electrical Officer, earning his qualification as a Surface Warfare Officer. CDR Bartak completed his second Division Officer tour in USS SAN JACINTO (CG 56) as Air Warfare Officer with SAN JACINTO assigned Air Defense Commander for the HARRY S TRUMAN Strike Group.
CDR Bartak completed his first Department Head tour in USS BULKELEY (DDG 84) from 2006 to 2007 as Operations Officer with BULKELEY assigned Air Defense Commander for the IWO JIMA Expeditionary Strike Group during OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM AND OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM. He completed his second Department Head tour in COMMANDER DESTROYER SQUADRON TWENTY TWO as Combat Systems Officer and Operations Officer from 2007-2008 with DESRON deploying as Sea Combat Commander and Maritime Interdiction Operations Coordinator for the THEODORE ROOSEVELT Carrier Strike Group. CDR Bartak served in COMMANDER CARRIER STRIKE GROUP TWELVE as the Tomahawk Land Attack Missile Officer and Assistant Surface Operations Officer for ENTERPRISE Carrier Strike Group from 2008-2010.
Ashore, CDR Bartak earned a Master of Arts Degree, Eastern Europe, from The Naval Post Graduate School. He also served in US Fleet Forces Command as Executive Assistant in the Defense Readiness Reporting System Navy (DRRS-N) Directorate.
