CDR Cory Applebee graduated from the University of Kansas and was commissioned through the Naval Reserve Officer's Training Program in January 1996. His first sea assignment was aboard USS MOUNT HOOD (AE-29) as the Combat Information Center and Communications Officer. CDR Applebee served his second division officer tour aboard USS SAMUEL ELIOT MORISON (FFG-13) as the Main Propulsion Assistant. His first department head tour was as Engineer Officer aboard USS SIMPSON (FFG-56) followed by his second department head tour as Engineer Officer on USS GETTYSBURG (CG-64). CDR Applebee served as Executive Officer aboard USS UNDERWOOD (FFG-36) and the Executive Officer aboard USS FARRAGUT (DDG-99) where he fleeted up and is currently serving as the Commanding Officer.

CDR Applebee’s shore tours have included serving as an NROTC instructor at the University of Kansas and as a student at the Army's Command and General Staff college where he earned his Joint Professional Military Educations Phase 1. CDR Applebee completed a joint tour at the United States Strategic Command serving as a Deputy Battle Watch Commander and the Current Operations Branch Chief.

CDR Applebee earned his Master's degree in Human Resource Management from Webster University. His awards include the Joint Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal (4), the Navy Achievement Medal (4) and various unit and campaign awards.
