CMDCM (SW/AW) Laura S. Nunley
Command Master Chief
A native of West Covina, California, Command Master Chief Petty Officer Laura Nunley enlisted as a young mother and wife in May 1994. After completing Recruit Training in Orlando, FL, she reported to Navy and Marine Corps Intelligence Training Center in Dam Neck, VA for Intelligence Specialist “A” School. Her first duty station was Atlantic Intelligence Center (AIC) in Norfolk, VA.
Master Chief Nunleys’ other assignments have included Mobile Integrated Command Facility Europe (MICFAC EUR) / Tactical Support Center (TSC) Sigonnella, Italy;, Naval Strike and Air Warfare Command (NSAWC) Fallon, NV;, USS BELLEAU WOOD (LHA-3) and USS BONHOMME RICHARD (LHD-6) San Diego, CA;, Commander Patrol and Reconnaissance Wing TWO (COMPATRECONWING TWO) Kaneohe, HI;, USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN-71); and United States Sergeants Major Academy (USASMA) FT. Bliss, TX.
While assigned to COMPATRECONWING TWO, Command Master Chief Nunley completed an eight month Individual Augmentation to Camp Abu Naji in Al Amarah Iraq. While at Camp Abu Naji, she was Awarded Joint Service Commendation Medal for her extraordinary leadership as an Iraqi Military Training Team (MITT) Advisor setting the standard for the future Iraqi Army Non-Commissioned Officer Corps.
In 2011, Master Chief Nunley was selected for Command Master Chief. She reported to the United States Sergeants Major Academy (USASMA) class 62 in El Paso, TX August 2011. She graduated in the 20 percentile of her class, landing her on the coveted Commandants List.
Her academic achievements include a Bachelor’s degree of Professional Studies in Business and Management; Senior Enlisted Joint Professional Military Education; and United States Sergeants Major Academy, class 62.
Military decorations include the Joint Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (Two gold Star), Joint Achievement Medal, Navy Achievement Medal (Four gold stars), and the Good Conduct Award (three bronze stars). In addition, she has earned the Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist and Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist designators.
