Commander Roderick D. MageeCommanding Officer
CDR Roderick D. Magee is a native of Moss Point, MS. He was commissioned through the Enlisted Commissioning Program at The Citadel in Charleston, SC in May 2000.
Afloat, CDR Magee has deployed to the Arabian Gulf, Red Sea, Mediterranean, and the Pacific in support of numerous joint and combined operations. He served as Executive Officer of USS CAPE ST. GEORGE (CG 71) and USS JAMES E. WILLIAMS (DDG 95). Other sea tours include Ordnance Officer, Combat Information Center Officer, and Assistant Operations Officer aboard USS MITSCHER (DDG 57) from December 2000 to August 2004. His Department Head tour began as Weapons Officer onboard USS CURTIS WILBUR (DDG 54) in October 2007, and he became Combat Systems Officer a year later. Under his tenure as Combat Systems Officer, CURTIS WILBUR was selected as the Spokane Trophy Award Winner.
Ashore, CDR Magee reported to Navy Air and Missile Defense Command as Deputy N8 responsible for Requirements and Assessments IAMD in November 2010. Afterwards he was chosen to fill the Flag Aide position at Navy Air and Missile Defense Command in June, 2012.
CDR Magee holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the Citadel, Military School of South Carolina. He completed a rigorous Master’s program earning a MS degree in Mechanical Engineering at Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA. While at NPS he also completed JPME Phase I. CDR Magee’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (2 awards), Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), and the Navy Achievement Medal.
