Fleet and Family Readiness Centers of Hampton Roads
The Navy's Fleet and Family Readiness Centers of Hampton Roads are ready and available to assist you as you make your move to Norfolk and the Hampton Roads area. You can contact them through their Web site at Fleet Family Support Centers or call 1-800-FSC-LINE (800-372-5463) 24-hours-a-day.
The Relocation Assistance Program (RAP) at the Navy Family Services Center provides several services for military personnel and their families as they journey from one command to the next. There are several programs located at the RAP Web site, Navy Family Services Center including personalized relocation assistance, a lending locker, an Overseas Transfer Workshop and a Smooth Move Workshop.
Nitze Family Readiness Group
Another resource for the Nitze Family is the Nitze Family Readiness Group, or NFRG. The group is a command-sponsored organization dedicated to providing morale and support to spouses, family members and friends.
NFRG organizes meetings, adult and children activities, family activities and more. Becoming involved with the NFRG is a wonderful way to meet new people and make new friendships.
Navy housing for married personnel in the Hampton Roads area consists of several thousand enlisted units and several hundred officer units. Requests for application can be made in person at the local housing office, or you can apply on-line at, Navy Family Services Center You can also find information to help you get started on your search for civilian housing at this website.
When you arrive in Norfolk, you and your family may need to stay in the Navy Lodge while awaiting housing. There are three Navy Lodges in the Hampton Roads area. They are very popular and you will need to book your room as far in advance as possible. Talk to the housing office about your housing options before you finalize plans to bring your family to Norfolk.

Hampton Roads Area Public School Systems
Children placed licensed childcare or enrolled in school must have proof of immunization number of contagious diseases. Children entering kindergarten through seventh grade must have a birth certificate and a complete physical examination within the past twelve months. Kindergartners must be age five on or before Sept. 30.
If your child is in Special Education or has developmental disabilities, have copies of your child's Individual Education Plan (IEP) and any partial or completed evaluative testing performed by previous schools. The Fleet and Family Support Centers' education specialists have additional information and phone numbers for area schools and community agencies. Contact your local FFSC for more information.
Some Hampton Roads area schools require children to rent or purchase their textbooks. Fees vary by school district or grade, usually range between $10 and $35 a year per student, and must be paid upon enrollment.
