CMDCM(SW/SS/AW) Michael T. Apperson
Command Master Chief
CMDCM Apperson entered the Navy in July 1985. He holds a BS in Organizational Leadership from Regent University, an MA in Leadership from the University of Oklahoma, and is a graduate of the Navy Senior Enlisted Academy.
CMDCM Apperson's first assignment was as Leading Petty Officer of Fire Control Division (Guns) on USS SHARK (SSN 591) completing a UNITAS Deployment in 1998. Following this tour he served as an Instructor at Naval Submarine School from 1990-1993 and then reported to the USS MONTPELIER (SSN 765) in Norfolk, VA. There he served as Fire Control Division Leading Petty Officer and First LT, completed deployments to the Mediterranean and Fifth Fleet, and advanced to Chief Petty Officer 1996. In June 1997, he reported to Shore Intermediate Maintenance Activity, Norfolk and served as the Submarine Combat Systems Repair Division LCPO, and advanced to Senior Chief in 1999.
In January 2000, CMDCM Apperson reported to USS BOISE (SSN 764) as the Combat Systems Leading Chief Petty Officer. During that time, BOISE completed various exercises and certifications and deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. In December of 2002, he transferred to USS JACKSONVILLE (SSN 699) as Chief of the Boat. There he advanced to Master Chief Petty Officer, completed a deployment to the North Atlantic, and homeport transferred to Pearl Harbor. HI. Following this tour he was assigned as the Staff CMC for Commander, Submarine Forces Atlantic and selected to the CMC Program in 2011.
Following his tour at COMSUBLANT he served as CMC of Strike Fighter Squadron EIGHT ONE and deployed to the Western Pacific on USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70) 2012. He reported as CMC for USS NITZE (DDG 94) in July 2013.
CMDCM Apperson's personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards) and various campaign ribbons.
