Commander John L. Bub
John L. Bub, Jr. enlisted in the Navy in July, 1986. He attended Basic Recruit Training in San Diego, California and ET “A” school Training in Great Lakes, Illinois. He served as an Electronics Technician aboard the USS CURTS (FFG-38) stationed in Yokosuko, Japan. John proceeded to shore duty at Corpus Christi Naval Air Station in Texas as the radar work center supervisor at Ground Electronics. It was here that John was selected for the Enlisted Commissioning Program and later attended the University of Mississippi where he graduated with a BBA in Management in 1996. He also attended the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California where he graduated with a MBA in Finance.
Commander Bub’s first officer assignment was aboard the USS RUSSELL (DDG-59) in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii as the Main Propulsion Assistant where he completed a deployment to the Arabian Gulf. Next, he was assigned as the Engineer Officer in the USS ARLEIGH BURKE (DDG-51) in Norfolk, Virginia. During this time, CDR Bub served as the Tactical Action Officer while on deployment to the Arabian Gulf. He, then, went to the USS ROBIN (MHC-54) in Ingleside, Texas and served as the Executive Officer. Most recently, CDR Bub completed a deployment to Fifth Fleet aboard the USS NITZE (DDG-94) as the Executive Officer and has fleeted up to become the ship’s Commanding Officer.
Ashore, CDR Bub served at U.S. Fleet Forces Command as the Assistant Future Surface Operations Officer in the Global Force Management Directorate in Norfolk, Virginia. He was then chosen as an Aide-de-Camp to the Deputy Commander in Stuttgart, Germany at the U.S. European Command. After completing his European tour, CDR Bub was the Deputy Operations Officer at Second Fleet in Norfolk, Virginia.
CDR Bub’s awards include Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal (4 awards), Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal (5 awards) and various other awards.
