Master Chief Petty Officer Yolanda D. Gooding was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, enlisted in the Navy on 11 Jan 1989, and completed Recruit Training in Orlando, Florida.

Master Chief Gooding’s first assignment was Amphibious Construction Battalion 1, San Diego, California, where she initially worked on tugboats, then moved to the Supply Department. She was a Customer Service representative from June 1989 to September 1992. Her next duty station was Shore Intermediate Maintenance Activity (SIMA) San Diego, California from January 1993 to May 1994. She reported to her first ship, USS ARCADIA (AD-42) in May 1994, where she worked in the Supply Shipping and Receiving Division until the ship was decommissioned in November 1994.

Her next tour was overseas at Fleet Activity Chinhae, Korea from December 1994 to December 1995, where she provided logistics support to various ships. She then moved on to Staff Duty in Southern Korea at Commander Naval Forces from December 1995 to January 1998. From there, she transferred to Naval Telecommunication Detachment Whidbey Island, CA where she served from January 1998 to April 2001.

After several years of shore duty, she went back to sea, onboard USS JOHN C. STENNIS (CVN-74), homeported in San Diego, California where she was Leading Petty Officer from April 2001 to May 2003. Following sea duty, she reported to Naval Surface Force, Atlantic Fleet in June 2003 as a Storekeeper First Class. In August 2003, she was selected for Chief Petty Officer. Moving on in her career path, she went back to sea onboard USS ASHLAND (LSD-48) home ported in Virginia Beach, VA, serving from July 2006 to December 2008, as Departmental Leading Chief Petty Officer. Next, she reported to Navy Information Operation Command in January 2009. During this short tour, she was selected for the Command Senior Chief Program in February 2009, a milestone in her career.

Master Chief Gooding is an Honors graduate of the U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 34) and received the RADM Grace Hopper Award. After graduating from the Command Master Chief course, she reported to COMDESRON-50 as Command Senior Chief in March 2011. Her next duty station was Joint Base McGuire Dix Lakehurst where she was selected for Master Chief in 2013.

She reported to her current duty station as the Command Master Chief of the USS Bulkeley (DDG-84) in Jun 2014. Her awards include Meritorious Service Medal; Navy Commendation Medal-2; Navy and Marine Corp Achievement-4 and various awards. She holds both Associate and Bachelor of Science Degrees from Ashworth University and Anthem University respectively.
