Commander Tom Scola
Commander Tom Scola is a native of Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, and he graduated from West Chester University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics in 1995. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1997 and received his Commission through Officer Candidate School in April 2000. In 2006, he earned a Master of Science in Applied Science (Operations Research) degree from the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) and his JPME Phase I certification from the Naval War College’s NPS campus.
Scola’s sea assignments were on destroyers and staffs where he served in the Combat Systems, Operations, and Engineering departments of those destroyers and staffs. For his shore assignments he was the lead instructor for Gas Turbine Engineering at Surface Warfare Officers School and a J-5 Political-Military Action Officer in the Deputy Directorate for Middle Eastern Affairs for the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Scola reported to USS WINSTON S. CHURCHILL (DDG-81) in December 2016.
