Commander Matthew Molmer
Commander Molmer, a native of Marietta, Georgia, served eleven years of Enlisted service as a Fire Controlman, before being commissioned through the Enlisted Commissioning Program. He graduated from Georgia State University in 1999, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems. He completed his division officer tours forward deployed to Yokosuka, Japan in USS COWPENS (CG 63) as the Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer and Navigator, deploying multiple times in the SEVENTH Fleet and to FIFTH Fleet AORs. His Department Head tours were in USS ANZIO (CG 68) as the Weapons and Combat Systems Officer, deploying to both SIXTH and FIFTH Fleet in support of counter piracy operations.
Commander Molmer’s shore assignments include the Naval Post Graduate School, Monterey, Ca where he earned a Master of Science Degree in Modeling and Simulation, USCG LANT FLEET Headquarters in Portsmouth, Va, COMNAVSURFLANT in Norfolk, Va and COMSIXTHFLT in Naples, Italy where he served as the Fleet Management Officer in the Current Operations Directorate.
Commander Molmer’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), US Coast Guard Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards) and various campaign and unit awards.
