Commander Jason Reller
Commander Jason Reller was born in Greensboro, NC and graduated from Porter-Gaud School. He graduated from the University of Virginia and entered the United States Navy through Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, FL in 1996.
After commissioning, CDR Reller reported to USS DE WERT (FFG 45) in Mayport, FL where he served in various billets and deployed as part of Standing Naval Forces Atlantic. He stayed onboard for his second division officer tour and deployed to the Eastern Pacific Ocean in support of counter narcotics operations. Later, he returned to sea duty onboard USS ROOSEVELT (DDG 80) as the Operations Officer and deployed to the Horn of Africa to stem the growth of piracy off the Somali coast. CDR Reller then reported as the Operations Officer (N3) for Commander, Destroyer Squadron TWO SIX in Norfolk, VA. While assigned to DESRON TWO SIX, CDR Reller deployed onboard the USS HARRY S TRUMAN (CVN 75) to the Arabian Gulf in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.
Following his division officer tour, CDR Reller served as the Battalion Staff Advisor, Junior Class Advisor, and Naval Science Instructor for the Philadelphia NROTC Consortium (consisting of the University of Pennsylvania, Villanova University, Temple University and Drexel University). While there, CDR Reller then reported to Newport, RI for Department Head School, where he graduated with distinction.
Following that tour, CDR Reller reported to the Naval War College, where he graduated with distinction earning a Master's Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies. CDR Reller most recently served on the Joint Staff in the Force Structure, Resources and Assessments Directorate (J-8), as an action officer and then an executive assistant. In December 2012, CDR Reller returned to USS ROOSEVELT (DDG 80) as Executive Officer.
CDR Reller holds various decorations and awards, including the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3x), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (4x), and the Joint Staff Identification Badge. He is happily married to the former Stephanie Heape of Charleston, SC and has a daughter, Quinn (7), and a son, Brew (5).
