Commander Meger D. Chappell
Commander Chappell graduated high school in South Bend, IN and is a native of Chicago, IL. He attended Old Dominion University and is also a 1997 graduate of Norfolk State University. He obtained a Master of Science in Management from Troy University and completed studies at Air Command and Staff College where he earned a Master of Military Operational Art and Science.
Commander Chappell’s previous operational assignments consisted of tours in USS Arthur W. Radford (DD 968), USS Carr (FFG 52), USS Elrod (FFG 55) and Destroyer Squadron Two Eight respectively. His operational tour in USS Elrod (FFG 55) as Operations Officer garnered all command and control excellence awards, the Marjorie Sterrett Award, CNO Safety Award and the Battle E decoration. He deployed as Operations Officer in Destroyer Squadron 28/Commander, Task Group 152.0 with the Eisenhower Strike Group in support of operations in the Arabian Gulf, in Iraq, and over Afghanistan in 2006-2007.
Ashore, Commander Chappell served in Afloat Training Group Norfolk where he performed duties as Training Liaison Officer and C4I Combat Systems Division Officer. He also served as Surface Warfare Officer First Tour Department Head Detailer in PERS 41. Commander Chappell’s most recent shore assignment was as Navy Manpower Analysis Center, Afloat Programs Department Head, where he contributed to fleet readiness through the determination of the quantity and quality of manpower requirements for ships, submarines, expeditionary forces, and afloat staffs.
CDR Chappell holds various decorations and awards, including the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (6x), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (5x).
