Commander John V. Tobin
CDR John Tobin was commissioned in 2000 from the U.S. Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science degree in Ocean Engineering and designated a Special Operations Officer.
At sea, CDR Tobin served as Diving and Salvage Officer in USS Salvor (ARS 52); Boarding Officer for Non-Complaint Boarding Team 1; Fire Control Officer in USS Port Royal (CG 73); Weapons Officer, Combat Systems Officer and Executive Officer in USS RUSSEL (DDG 59). He has deployed to FIFTH, SIXTH and SEVENTH Fleet areas of responsibility.
Ashore, CDR Tobin served at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD as the Deputy Director for Professional Development; Joint Staff, J-5 Directorate Washington D.C. as an action officer for Strategic Plans and Policy Division; U.S. Sixth Fleet, Naval Forces Europe and Africa and Striking and Support Forces NATO in Naples, Italy as Flag Aide for the Commander; and Center for Naval Security Forces and Anti-Terrorism Pearl Harbor, Hawaii as the Assistant Officer in Charge; Experimental Diving Unit in Panama City, FL as Diving Officer.
CDR Tobin’s additional education includes a Master of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice and Anti-Terrorism, from Boston University and qualification as a Joint Service Officer.
His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards) and various unit and service awards as well as the Joint Staff J5 Action Officer of the Year.
