Commander James A. Quaresimo
CDR James A. Quaresimo is a native of Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania and enlisted in the Navy as a Damage Controlman in 1988. His enlisted tours of duty include assignment aboard USS GALLERY (FFG 26) home ported in Mayport, Florida, as an instructor at Fire Fighting Training Division, Recruit Training Command Great Lakes, Illinois, and as Repair Division Leading Chief Petty Officer aboard USS MITSCHER (DDG 57) home ported in Norfolk, Virginia.
Commissioned as a Surface Warfare Officer through the Seaman to Admiral program in 1997, CDR Quaresimo’s first Division Officer tour was aboard USS BOONE (FFG 28) home ported in Mayport, Florida where he served as First Lieutenant until 2000. During that time, he conducted operations in 6th Fleet and SOUTHCOM AORs in support of NATO and Counter Narcotics efforts. His second Division Officer tour was aboard USS VICKSBURG (CG 69) where he served as Fire Control Officer until 2001. While serving as Fire Control Officer, he conducted final operational testing on the Navy’s Cooperative Engagement Capability.
Following his Division Officer tours, CDR Quaresimo earned his Bachelor Degree in Finance from Jacksonville University where he graduated Suma Cum Ladue in 2003. He later served as Operations Officer in USS DE WERT (FFG 45) until 2005, where he conducted Counter Narcotics and UNITAS Deployments.
CDR Quaresimo assumed command of PATROL COASTAL CREW DELTA in August of 2006. While in command of PC CREW DELTA, he also commanded USS SQUALL (PC 7) home ported in Little Creek, Virginia and USS CHINOOK (PC 9) home ported in Bahrain. While in command of USS CHINOOK, he deployed to the 5th fleet AOR in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Following PC Command, CDR Quaresimo went on to serve for the Commander, Naval Surfaces Forces Atlantic as the Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff for Training and Readiness. While at SURFLANT, he was responsible for tracking the training and readiness of all surface ships and rotational crews assigned to Commander, Naval Surface Forces Atlantic. He served in that capacity until October 2009.
CDR Quaresimo then attended the College of Naval Warfare at the U.S. Naval War College. Graduating in November of 2010, he earned a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies with an Additional Qualification Designator in the Asia-Pacific Area of Studies.
Following the Naval War College, CDR Quaresimo was assigned to Joint Forces Command as a solutions analyst until its disestablishment. After JFCOM’s disestablishment, he was reassigned as a Requirements Officer at The Joint Staff, J7, Joint and Coalition Warfighting Suffolk, Virginia. While at The Joint Staff, he earned his designation as a Joint Qualified Officer.
CDR Quaresimo’s personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, four Navy Commendation Medals, four Navy Achievement Medals and numerous campaign and service awards.
