Commander Milciades Then
Commanding Officer

CDR Milciades Then hails from Miami Florida. He joined the Navy June 1991 as a non-rated fireman. After boot camp and apprentice training, he reported on board the USS SAMUEL B. ROBERTS (FFG 58) as part of Auxiliaries Division.

In 1992, he was accepted to the Broadened Opportunities for Officer Selection and Training (BOOST) program, and, after completion of the program, was accepted to the U.S. Naval Academy. He graduated from the Naval Academy in 1997. He served as the ASW Officer on board the USS CAPE ST. GEORGE (CG 71) and Auxiliaries/Electrical Officer on board the USS WADSWORTH (FFG 9).

He served his shore duty as an Admissions Officer at the Naval Academy where he was deployed, as an Individual Augmentee, to Bogotá, Colombia as part of 1st and 3rd Battalion 7th Special Forces Group. He served his first Department Head tour as Chief Engineer on board DONALD COOK (DDG 75). He was selected for early command and served as Commanding Officer PC CREW LIMA and deployed on USS SIROCCO (PC 6) in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

He served as the Flag Secretary and Aide to Commander Naval Surface Forces, US Pacific Fleet. CDR Then reported to US Joint Forces Command J7, later Joint Staff J7, for his joint tour, and deployed to Kabul, Afghanistan as the joint training liaison to the ISAF Joint Command.
