Commander A. J. Kruppa

CDR Kruppa is a native of New York and received his commission through the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) at The Pennsylvania State University.  

A Surface Warfare Officer, CDR Kruppa’s afloat tours include serving with USS Nicholson (DD 982), USS Arthur W. Radford (DD 968); USS Firebolt (PC 10); USS Laboon (DDG 58); and Destroyer Squadron Twenty Eight (CDS 28).  At sea he has completed multiple Fifth Fleet, Sixth Fleet, and NATO deployments in support of Operations ACTIVE ENDEAVOR, ALLIED PROTECTOR, ENDURING FREEDOM, and IRAQI FREEDOM.
 
Ashore, Kruppa served as the Department Head curriculum program manager and as senior assessment project manager at the Center for Naval Leadership.  From 2013-2016 he served as lead planner for multiple, joint and combined contingency plans at Headquarters, U.S. European Command (J5).  Most recently, CDR Kruppa served as Deputy Director, Commander’s Action Group for Naval Surface Force, Atlantic (SURFLANT).
 
A joint-qualified officer, CDR Kruppa is a graduate of the U. S. Marine Corps Command and Staff College, the Joint and Combined Warfighting School, the U. S. Marine Corps School of Advanced Warfighting (SAW), and is a distinguished graduate of the SWOS Surface Commander’s Course.  He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Penn State, and Master’s degrees in Military Studies, as well as, Operational Studies from Marine Corps University.
 
He is the recipient of various campaign, unit, and personal awards to include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards).
