Commander Robert W. Alpigini
CDR Alpigini was born in Delaware County, Pennsylvania. He received an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy where he graduated and received his commission in 1996.
His first assignment was as a Plankowner in USS MAHAN (DDG-72) where he served as First Lieutenant and Damage Control Assistant. CDR Alpigini was selected for the Early Roller Program and graduated from Department Head School in Newport, RI in March of 2000.
In August 2000, CDR Alpigini reported to USS VALLEY FORGE (CG-50) where he served 18 months as both the Weapons Officer and Combat Systems Officer. Following this assignment he served as Operations Officer in VALLEY FORGE until November 2003 deploying in support of combat operations for OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM with the CONSTELLATION Strike Group in the Northern Arabian Gulf.
CDR Alpigini’s subsequent shore assignments included OPNAV N86 as a Requirements Officer for the LCS and DDX programs; Flag Aide to Director of Surface Warfare (N86); and later as Flag Aide to DCNO for Warfare Requirements and Programs (N6/7).
In July 2006 he reported to the Harvard John F. Kennedy School of Government where he earned a Masters of Public Administration, graduating in May 2007.
CDR Alpigini was assigned to Sealift Logistics Command Atlantic from August 2007 to June 2010 and assumed duties as Executive Officer in USS STOUT (DDG 55) in December 2010 before fleeting up to Commanding Officer in September 2012.
CDR Alpigini’s awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (2); Navy Commendation Medal (2); Navy Achievement Medal (2), and various unit and service awards.
