CDR Jennifer Eaton graduated from Cleveland State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. While attending Cleveland State, she joined the Naval Reserves where she served initially as an Operations Specialist in Amphibious Construction Battalion TWO and later on the staff of Commander in Chief Atlantic Fleet. After nearly four years of enlisted service she was selected to Officer Candidate School, graduating and receiving her commission in February 1998.

Her first assignment was to USS VELLA GULF (CG 72), where she served as Electrical Officer and deployed in support of peacekeeping operations in Kosovo. In 2000, CDR Eaton reported to USS PETERSON (DD 969) where she served as Combat Information Center Officer and deployed in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM.

In 2002, CDR Eaton reported to the Engineering Readiness Department (N43) of Afloat Training group Atlantic for duty as a Gas Turbine Examiner prior to reporting to Department Head School. She served her initial Department Head tour onboard USS ELROD (FFG 55) as Operations Officer, deploying in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM. In September 2005 she took Command of Patrol Coastal Crew ALPHA onboard USS SIROCCO (PC 6) and later USS THUNDERBOLT (PC 12), deploying in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM.

CDR Eaton’s first assignment following PC command was to U.S. Fleet Forces Command (USFF) where she served as Future Operations Scheduler for Surface Combatants in the Global Force Management Directorate (GFM/N36). In 2008, CDR Eaton was selected to attend the Naval War College (NWC) in Newport, Rhode Island where she earned a Master’s Degree in National Defense and Strategic Studies while completing her Joint Professional Military Education (JPME I). While at the War College, she was selected to join the Gravely Naval Warfare Research Group where she conducted additional studies in Integrated Air & Missile Defense. In 2009, CDR Eaton was chosen to be a part of the team that developed the curriculum and stood up the Senior Officer Ship Material Readiness Course (SOSMRC) at the Surface Warfare Officer School in Newport, Rhode Island. Her final duty assignment prior to reporting to USS BARRY as Executive Officer was to the Chief of Naval Operations (OPNAV) staff where she initially served as the Surface Warfare Enterprise (SWE) Manpower Requirements Officer for the chief of Naval Personnel (OPNAV N12), and later as Manpower and Training Requirements Officer for the Deputy Surface Warfare Division (OPNAV N96).

CDR Eaton’s awards include the Meritorious Service Medal; the Navy Commendation Medal; the Navy Achievement Medal and various unit and service awards.
