Welcome Aboard USS GRAVELY (DDG 107)

Welcome to GRAVELY!

I would like to personally welcome all visitors and shipmates to USS GRAVELY’s website.  I invite you to enjoy the photos and links provided, and encourage your recommendations that may improve our website.  Welcome Aboard GRAVELY!

A special welcome to the family members of GRAVELY’s crew, our future crew members and their families, GRAVELY Elementary School students and staff, and the Richmond Navy League!

I couldn’t be happier or more proud to be representing such a great American Hero and a great American Family.  I encourage you to research the life and legacy of our ship’s namesake, VADM Samuel L. Gravely, Jr.  For the crew, Admiral Gravely’s lifelong principles, character, and teachings, along with his tireless energy, are incredible examples to emulate.  His drive and determination serve as motivation to each of us.  You truly are part of an amazing legacy, and as you serve onboard GRAVELY my expectation of each of you, regardless of rank, is to lead by example by following VADM Gravely’s example – meet every challenge with thorough preparation and focused energy.

For those lucky Sailors with orders to GRAVELY, use the links and phone numbers to get in touch with us as soon as possible, we are here to assist in any way that we can.  You’ll be assigned a sponsor to aid in your transfer process.  Know that you are joining a Navy Family that is guided by the core values and principles that VADM GRAVELY himself helped to establish through his lifetime of service.  Once you report aboard, expect to quickly become a contributing, motivated member of Team GRAVELY.  You will quickly find that we maintain high personal and professional standards and only tolerate a positive environment that enables Sailors and their families to grow both personally and professionally.  You are joining a winning team.

For parents, family and friends if you have questions or concerns I welcome contact from you as well. Be assured that I will do everything in my power to effectively train and lead your sons and daughters as we answer the call of our great nation.

I couldn’t be more proud of the accomplishments of GRAVELY and her stellar crew.  I am very excited as we move forward into the ship’s operational life after commissioning and am confident we will overcome the challenges we will face together.

Again, Welcome Aboard and have a Great GRAVELY Day!

David W. Dry
Commanding Officer
