Commander Joseph (Joe) A. Baggett Jr
CDR Baggett enlisted in the Navy in February of 1993. Upon graduating from Machinist Mate ‘A’ school he was assigned to the USS KITTY HAWK (CV 63) where he would serve for a period of four years. In 1997, CDR Baggett applied for and was accepted to the Seaman to Admiral commissioning program. He arrived at Officer Candidate School in February of 1998 and received his commission in May of that same year.
Upon receiving his commission from OCS in 1998, CDR Baggett was assigned to the USS KLAKRING FFG 42 where he served for 18 months as Damage Control Assistant. Following that tour, he reported to USS STOUT DDG 55 to serve as Fire Control Officer and Force Protection Officer. While aboard STOUT he took part in operations NOBLE EAGLE and ENDURING FREEDOM. CDR Baggett then reported to Old Dominion University in 2002 where he would graduate with Honors earning a Bachelors of Science degree in Communications with a minor in Political Science. After successful completion of Department Head training, CDR Baggett reported aboard the USS Barry (DDG 52) to serve as Engineering Officer. During this tour, while on deployment to the 6th Fleet AOR, he and the crew of BARRY were the lead air defense ship in the Non-combatant evacuation of over ten thousand US citizens from the embassy in Beirut. After BARRY, CDR Baggett reported to the USS ANZIO (CG 68) to again serve as Engineering Officer for his 2nd department head tour. Following that tour he attended the Naval War College where he earned a Masters degree in National Security and Strategic Studies. Additionally, during his time at the War College, CDR Baggett was selected to be one of only two U.S. Naval officers to take part in the Naval Staff College and be liaison in the War College’s program for mid-grade International Naval officer students. Following that assignment he reported to the staff of COMUSNAVCENT, Commander Fifth Fleet in Bahrain to serve for 18 months as lead Exercise planner in the Future Plans Center. Following that assignment CDR Baggett served as the Littoral Combat Ship’s Mine Warfare Mission Package Requirements Officer on the CNO’s staff at OPNAV in Washington DC.
CDR Baggett screened for Commander Command-Afloat in 2011 and has received orders to report to the USS TRUXTUN (DDG 103).
Personal decorations include, (Four) Navy & Marine Corps Commendation Medals, (Five) Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medals and multiple unit commendations.
