Lieutenant Commander Andrew D. Bates
LCDR Bates is a native of Indiana and enlisted in the Naval Reserve as a Boiler Technician in 1992. Following recruit and technical training, he enrolled in Purdue University and graduated in 1997 with a B.S. in Nuclear Engineering and a NROTC commission.
At sea, LCDR Bates served aboard USS INGERSOLL (DD 990) as Gunnery Officer, USS CAPE ST GEORGE (CG 71) as Strike Officer, and USS LAKE ERIE (CG 70) as Weapons Officer and Combat Systems Officer.
Ashore, LCDR Bates served as Flag Aide to Commander, Amphibious Group TWO and completed a joint tour at the Missile Defense Agency where he served as Executive Officer to the Deputy Director of MDA and later as Technical Director for the Standard Missile-3 Block IIB Program Office.
LCDR Bates’ military education includes Naval Postgraduate School (M.S. in Electrical Engineering), U.S. Army Command and General Staff College (Joint Professional Military Education Phase I), and Joint Forces Staff College (JPME Phase II).
LCDR Bates has received the Defense Meritorious Service Medal; Joint Service Commendation Medal; Navy Commendation Medal (2 awards); Navy Achievement Medal (2 awards) and various unit and service awards.
