MMCM (SW/AW) Brenda Phillips
Senior Enlisted Leader
Master Chief Machinist Mate Brenda Phillips hails from Mountain Home, Arkansas. Enlisting under the delayed entry program in June 1990, she completed Basic Training in Orlando, Florida and attended Machinist Mate “A” School at Great Lakes, Illinois.
Master Chief Phillips’s first assignment was onboard the USS CAPE COD (AD-43) assigned to the Main Propulsion division, where she deployed in support of Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm and follow on tour on USS McKEE (AS-41).
Master Chief Phillip’s next assignment was SIMA, San Diego where she advanced to Second Class Petty Officer and was Sailor of the Year.
In 1998 she reported to the Pre-commissioning USS BONHOMME RICHARD (LHD-6) at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, MS where she was advanced to First Class Petty Officer. While onboard, she was assigned to A-division where she qualified as Engineering Officer of the Watch (EOOW) and Engineering Duty Officer. She deployed twice in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
In 2002 she transferred to Transient Personnel Unit Jacksonville, FL and served as the Command CMEO and the Port call advisor, where she developed a program that enabled Sailors to complete basic and advanced fire fighting schools prior to reporting to their prospective commands. She was advanced to Chief Petty Officer in 2004.
Reported to USS WASP (LHD-1) in 2005, where she was assigned to the Aft Main Machinery Room as the LCPO, quickly qualified EDO and EOOW and deployed three times in support of GWOT surge, UN CENTCOM surge and PANAMAX, and was advanced to Senior Chief.
Reporting to Ship Repair Facility Japan Regional Maintenance Facility in 2008, she was assigned to repair division as a Ship’s Superintendent and later as assistant Repair Officer for 11 FDNF surface ships. She coordinated repairs and modernization for USS BLUE RIDGE (LCC 19), 7th Fleet’s Flag ship, and was assigned to the USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73) project team and was aadvanced to Master Chief Petty Officer.
Master Chief Phillips is currently attached to COMPHIBRON EIGHT as the Senior Enlisted Leader.
Master Chief Phillips awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (six awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards), and various campaign and service awards. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from Florida State College.
