CMDCM (SW/AW) Michael D. Conners Senior Enlisted Leader
Master Chief Machinist Mate Michael D. Conners enlisted in the U.S. Navy in April 1993 under the delayed entry program and hails from Florida. His enlisted career includes various tours on two Forrestal-class Aircraft Carriers out of Mayport, Florida; one Mars-class Combat Stores Ship, one Austin-class Amphibious Transport Dock Ship, one Tarawa-class Amphibious Assault Ship, one Hunley-class submarine tender and two Emory S. Land-class submarine tenders stationed in Guam.
Nine months after graduating from Andrew Jackson High School, he attended basic training at Recruit Training Command (RTC) San Diego, California. Upon completion of basic training, he reported to Service School Command Great Lakes, Illinois and graduated Boiler Technician “A” School.
His shore commands included a 36-month tour at Harbor Operations Naval Station Mayport, Florida providing port services to surface combatant ships in the FLEET FORCES AOR. In 2006, he transferred to the Midwest Region as a BEQ LCPO/Instructor at Training Support Center Great Lakes, Illinois. He trained, mentored, and developed boot camp graduates and prepared them to be technical engineering experts for the surface fleet.
Being afforded the opportunity to attend and complete Correctional Specialist Training in San Antonio, Texas. In February 2013, he reported to TRANSPERSUNIT (TPU/PCF JAX) Pre-Trial Confinement Facility as the Assistant Brig Officer at NAS Jacksonville, Florida. Providing safe confinement of multi-service prisoners, expeditious processing of Sailors to and from deployed units and transition of Sailors with unique legal issues within the Navy Southeast Region and four COCOMS.
In April 2016, he reported to the USS Emory S. Land (AS-39) to serve as the R-2 Mechanical Repair Division Leading Chief Petty Officer, he supported submarine and surface ship maintenance and repair for FIFTH and SEVENTH Fleet deployed units.
Master Chief Conners is currently attached to COMPHIBRON EIGHT as the Senior Enlisted Leader.
His personal award decorations include the U.S. Navy League’s Honorable J. William Middendorf II award, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (seven awards), Good Conduct Medal (seven awards), Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal and various campaign and service awards. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Southern Illinois University Carbondale, Illinois; an Associate of Arts Degree from Florida State College of Jacksonville and is a graduate of the US Navy Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 143/Green).
